Sony Ericsson shows off the Z600

After months of anticipation, and quite a few "spy" shots, Sony Ericsson today launched the Z600 at a press conference in Paris. The Z600 will be their new mid-high end phone, with similar specs to the T610, but in a new clamshell form-factor. Sony Ericsson is continuing its theme of personalization with the Z600 by introducing changeable covers for their folder phones. The exchangeable covers have been very successful in Japan, and they will be hoping to emulate their success in other territories.
Do you like the T610 functionality, but wish that it was in a clamshell form factor? Sony Ericsson has answered this by introducing the new Z600 phone. This phone has all the latest features and functionalities of the T610, but in a nice clamshell form factor. In addition, Sony Ericsson has added a few extras to it. First, the phone has an interchangeable cover to allow you to personalize the phone. Then they continued by supporting the new Game board EGB-10 accessory that converts the Z600 into a game machine. Sony Ericsson will bundle some new games with it that support multiplayer via Bluetooth connections. One major difference between the T610 and the Z600 is that the Z600 will have a new display that is much more readable in sunlight. Like the other clamshell phones, Sony Ericsson also added a display on the outside of the phone to provide caller ID, time, network status, and battery life information.

Other nice features include user themes, 32-voice polyphonic ringtones, music DJ feature, Quickshare technology, Bluetooth, Sync ML, T9 input, Image Viewer, PIM functionalities, and much more.

The camera will most likely be the same one found in the T610, meaning a 352x288 pixels resolution. An emphasis is being placed on mobile gaming, with the release of the Gameboard EGB-10, an accessory that converts the Z600 into a portable games machine. Sony Ericsson will bundle the new V-Rally 2 game, which will be playable via Bluetooth multiplayer. One special feature worth mentioning is that the keypad will allow users to press 2 buttons at once, allowing them to shoot and move at the same time while playing a game.

One major difference between the T610 and Z600 is that the Z600 will use a different type of screen which should make it more visible in sunlight. One of the main issues we had with the original T610 was it's visibility in sunlight, so hopefully it has been fixed.

Sony Ericsson has included an external display to display information such as caller ID, time, network status, and battery life. Since the Z600 is very similar to the T610, it will include features such as user themes, 32-voice polyphonic tones, the music DJ feature, and Quickshare technology, which will allow users to easily share photos.
